My research investigates social and structural factors affecting strategic outcomes for teams and organizations.  Broadly defined, I study the performance implications of network structures, with special attention to those configurations that endow teams and organizations with a competitive advantage.  My dissertation examines how social structure influences audiences’ attentional focus and the ability to learn from others, as well as the implications of these mechanisms on competitive advantage. My work on teams investigates how overlapping memberships affect a host of outcomes, including gender diversity in the top management teams of firms in the S&P 1500 index and the performance of national soccer teams.
